How We Happened
Dave Gallup is my brother. A graphic designer he had 8 years of recovery before a back surgery in 2002. He died of a overdose from the disease of addiction at age 36, after a valiant fight for his life that lasted 6 years.
This was before we knew there was an opiate epidemic coming.
He was uninsured during much of his addiction and so services were hard to obtain.
Sober living as an affordable option was our response to this dilemma.

My name is Suzanne Madecky and I am a founder and Executive Director of the Dave Gallup Foundation.
I am a nurse with extensive experience in emergency nursing, psychiatric nursing, and nurse leadership.
I am an affected family member with 30 years sober.
Curtis Gauthier is trained as an Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse (AODA) counselor with over 25 years of sobriety. He is also a Certified Peer Specialist.
He is a long time Ashland resident with a passion to help his community and many positive local working relationships.
Why We Do It
The Dave Gallup Foundation started with a woman’s sober living near Madison WI in 2015 and added the men’s house in Ashland WI in 2019. We have had a good success rate with individuals that reside in sober living for at least 3 months to up to a year (80%).
The longer an individual stays the greater the chance they will attain long term sobriety.
In 2010, the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment published research results that showed former residents of sober living communities were significantly less likely to relapse at six-month intervals ranging up to 18 months post-treatment.
One of the key findings of this study, and a major factor in the improved outcomes for the subjects, was the large and mostly positive community of support that was established in the early days of sober living.
Supportive people providing motivation and hope help individuals in early recovery make choices that lead to positive change.
